Storytelling in the Tourism Industry

Storytelling is extremely effective in helping brands build an emotional bond with consumers. In the case of tourism specifically, travellers can research and learn about the features of a destination before they go, but storytelling is highly effective when it comes to conveying, as a tourism brand, the experience of that destination and how the time spent there will feel.

In this way, after their holiday travellers are left with a lasting experience in which they remember not only what they saw but also how those moments felt. Anyone can offer a beautiful beach, good service and delicious food, but a brand's own distinctive story and the way it is told is what sets it apart from competitors.

Through stories, a brand's roots, origins, history and promises can be conveyed to consumers in a much richer and more accessible way. Especially in tourism, being able to tell travellers who choose you for their holiday about your brand through these stories both contributes to the brand-building process and allows the brand's cultural heritage to be passed on meaningfully.

When choosing between similar options, emotional triggers often come into play in people's travel decisions. This is exactly where the power of storytelling adds value to the brand.

Finally, when travellers who choose your brand and stay at your hotel experience their holiday through the story you have told them, they will be more willing to return to that place and to recommend it to others.

Because stories that become one with your brand carry "emotion" rather than instructional information, they make you a more memorable, more preferred and more distinctive brand.
